ANDA, Pangasinan – Fishpen and fish cage operators have incurred an
estimated P100 million in losses due to a massive fishkill that has been
affecting their bangus (milkfish) produce since Wednesday.
Mayor Nestor Pulido told The STAR in a phone interview Thursday that extreme
heat, sudden rainfall, and overstocking, which resulted in low dissolved oxygen
level, were the reasons for the fishkill, the first ever that happened
massively in this town which is considered as one of the top bangus producers
in Pangasinan.
The nearby town of Bolinao,
also a top bangus producer, is likewise affected.
